What is AURORA?

AURORA is a safe, reliable, quick and early prenatal screening test. Thanks to this test, whose analysis are conducted in California via Illumina Inc. platform, it is possible to detect the presence of chromosomal abnormalities by analyzing the circulating cell-free fetal DNA in maternal blood.

“The analysis of circulating free fetal DNA in maternal blood is a sensitive and reliable approach for non-invasive prenatal screening of the main fetal chromosomal abnormalities. This new method of investigation is an important breakthrough in prenatal medicine and opens new scenarios for the identification of fetal genetic abnormalities”.

With a simple blood sampling, the test performs a search of fetal aneuploidies without involving risk for the fetus and the mother starting from the 10th week of pregnancy. The test results are reliable (sensitivity higher than 99.9% for the most common trisomies, i.e. Trisomy 18 and Trisomy 21) and available in a short time.

The AURORA test provides information on the most common autosomal aneuploidies and sexual chromosomes and, at family discretion, the main microdeletions and the fetal sex.
